The eco-lodge takes its name from the nearby Adazen mountain. AdaZen Lodge is built on a small hill overlooking the village of R’bat, one of the last in this beautiful “Y”-shaped valley of the Ait Bougmez, which comprises 27 douars and stretches at an altitude of 2000 m over almost 30 km. The 360° view of the high mountains, cultivated fields and village is enough to make your day. The lodge is a world unto itself, with its various gardens and terraces from which you can follow the course of the sun, and immerse yourself in the Berber world while enjoying the rest and quiet of the house. As night falls, we head to the highest terrace to observe the constellations and count the shooting stars. It’s an impressive sight
Mohamed, Aziz, Laila and Saadia will look after your stay at Adazen. They both come from the village of R’bat and grew up there. Aziz is the lodge’s steward and will ensure your daily comfort. He will also be your guide to the valley and its inhabitants. Mohamed is the lodge manager and an excellent cook. He supervises the team and ensures the smooth running of the site. He is also president of Tifawine, the village association working for the development and preservation of the valley.
The valley is located in the middle of the Central High Atlas, a 4-hour drive from Marrakech in the heart of the Mgoun Geopark, home to numerous geological, natural and prehistoric wonders: dinosaur tracks, rock engravings, remarkable geological formations (imi ifri bridge). A visit to the Ait Bougmez valley means stepping back in time, catching a glimpse of a fascinating ancient world that celebrates the perfect alliance between man and nature. The legendary Saharan tribe of the Aït Atta, who settled here centuries ago, were above all nomads. They found nature here generous enough to want to stop and build their house, made entirely of earth, clinging to the mountainside, leaving the valley floor free for cultivation. Ancient know-how is omnipresent: mule ploughing, crop rotation, rules for sharing water, pasture and wood. Water, land and forests are sacred here, and everything in the landscape bears witness to man’s science of taking advantage of the environment without exhausting it.
